6 common health problems and their honey remedy!
Honey is a great helper for maintaining excellent health. Here are 6 common problems that can be solved with honey.
Almost everyone has experienced health problems at some point in their life. When dealing with them, reaching for pills from the pharmacy is not always the best idea. For some ailments, natural liquid gold – bee honey – acts as a proven panacea. It is a tried and tested helper both in prevention and in treatment itself. "Honey contains an optimal ratio of proteins and minerals, vitamins, iron, calcium, phosphorus and plant essential oils, which are essential for the proper functioning of the immune and digestive systems. It has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory effects, strengthens the circulatory system and the heart, prevents respiratory diseases and febrile illnesses," explains Milan Špaček, a honey sommelier from Medokomerc.
Cough
If you are suddenly overcome by a coughing fit, the quickest solution is to replenish fluids, which will suppress the cough. Warm drinks are the most effective, the best of which is classic tea with lemon and honey. Tea has a naturally soothing effect, lemon has a high content of vitamin C, and honey helps in the treatment of inflammation. With honey, you don't have to wait for the tea to cool down completely, it can withstand higher temperatures for a short time. Once the tea is sippable, you can add honey and lemon. In addition to tea, warm milk with honey also has healing effects, which also acts as a balm for diseased bronchi.
Wound healing
Honey also helps in the healing and regeneration of wounds, such as abrasions, scratches or minor cuts, sometimes acting faster than some pharmacy preparations. Since it is antiseptic and antimicrobial, it reduces swelling, stimulates the formation of new tissues, destroys bacteria and dead cells directly in the wound, and prevents infection. We can easily prepare a healing honey wrap by applying a layer of honey to the wound so that it is completely covered. Cover with gauze and bandage. We recommend applying creamed honey, which does not run due to its thicker consistency. It is enough to change the honey wrap once a day, without removing the honey from the wound in any way. Repeat the procedure every day until completely healed.
Burns
In the case of minor burns, e.g. at home while cooking, honey will provide you with quick help. It's similar to the wounds above. Clinical studies prove that burns that were directly treated with honey heal faster than in patients who only had the wound bandaged. When treating a burn, first cool the affected area under cold water and then dry it. The recommended cooling time is at least 10 minutes, even though it may be painful. After cooling, apply honey to the burn and the skin around it. Cover with plastic wrap and secure well with a bandage. In the beginning, change the dressing twice a day, later once will suffice.
Dandruff
Dandruff is a very common chronic disease of the scalp, which is caused by the fungus Malassezia. It lives on the scalp and feeds on oil from hair follicles. Stress, sensitivity to some hair products or hormonal changes promote the overgrowth of this fungus. This then causes the scalp to produce a larger amount of skin cells, which die quickly and look like white flakes - dandruff. Here, too, there is a natural way to get rid of them - coconut oil and, of course, honey will help. A natural mixture full of nutrients that will remove dandruff and promote a healthy appearance of your hair. Honey in this mixture has an antibacterial effect, while coconut oil perfectly hydrates the hair and hair roots. Mix them in the same ratio, apply to the hair, leave it on for a while and then rinse.
Insomnia
Healthy sleep is extremely important for each of us. It affects our productivity, sense of happiness and the healthy functioning of the entire organism. Sleep disorders are mostly caused by an unhealthy lifestyle and stress. A great natural medicine to improve sleep quality is honey and lemon balm. Therefore, reach for tea made from lemon balm, which you sweeten with honey. This combines the two most effective fighters against insomnia at once. The second option is a classic in the form of a cup of warm milk with honey. In addition, milk is a source of tryptophan, which is converted in the body to serotonin, which has a positive effect on sleep quality. Tip: You can have a handful of almonds with warm drinks, which, in addition to tryptophan, also contain magnesium and together suppress insomnia.
Toothache
Probably one of the most unpleasant and worst types of pain there can be. Are you wondering how to get rid of a toothache before you reach for medication or don't have it available? Soothe the pain with loose-leaf mint tea, which has the ability to numb the tooth. Just pour hot water over a teaspoon of dried mint leaves and let it steep for 20 minutes. The second effective home medicine is a paste of 5 tablespoons of honey and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon. Apply to the aching tooth 3 times a day. Honey in combination with cinnamon will not only remove the pain, but also any bad breath.
